Hi all! It’s Jamie from Marketing taking over the blog today.
It’s that time of year again! Gift-giving, holiday shopping, parties, family time and our yearly beauty shoot. One of the most exciting, inspiring and stressful days for us.
There’s getting the looks and products right, then models, then hair and makeup and styling and photographer and lighting. One of these elements can mess up the entire day! Luckily, over the past few years we have assembled an amazing team. We understand each other and work together to create beautiful imagery. So much work goes in behind the scenes before we get to the point where we are ready to put these entire looks together. First we have to decide what trends and what elements we feel would add to our current line. Then Amber begins the product development, this can take months to even years to get a product exactly right! Once we know what products are ready and need to be showcased that day I take over!
I put together the inspiration behind each shot, anything from ideas for makeup application to hairstyle, jewelry, accessories and/or wardrobe. I try to imagine the girl who is wearing the look, where is she going? What is she doing? How is she feeling? What image does she want to project? The goal is to make the images inspirational but not unattainable. Our products are for the everyday woman to look and feel beautiful, not just fashion models!
This year we were working with a lot of jewelry and that meant orders from Shopbop, Baublebar, Net-a-porter and more. Not to mention an absolutely stunning Monique Lhuillier wedding dress that blew us all away. When styling a look you would be surprised how many options are needed. A beautiful piece could look like too much on camera, or not enough, or doesn’t work with the hair or the vibe of the shot. Small nuances really do affect the feeling of the photo and those have to be taken into account. Then comes the magic of the flat out amazing makeup artist Jasmine Dashtizad, photographer Sonja Pacho, hair by celebrity stylist Adir Abergel, stying assistance Sara Kinsumba, models Allie Crandell and Chanel Gray. We shot so many fun looks at Smashbox this year that we can’t wait to share with you. There is urban elegance with an edge, a little retro glam, a rosy golden glow, brows, brows and more brows, lashes for days and so much more.
Here are some images we found that really inspired where we went with some of the looks. Get ready for all of this beauty coming to you in 2015 and 2016!
